ANN ARBOR, MI — A ‘boutique’ marijuana shop is welcoming walk-in guests after running curbside and delivery sales since February 2020.
Apothecare at 2793 Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor officially opened for walk-ins on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and offers a range of products harvested at their cultivation facility in Leoni Township, along with CBD, glass smoking pieces and other accessories, said Jack Edelstein, co-owner.
“We’re locally owned by Ann Arbor residents. We’re not a corporate entity in terms of outside investors and large organizations and we would like to keep it at that scale. We think we are more receptive to and sensitive to our customers,” Edelstein said.

Edelstein said the company was identified by Certified Kind as being 100% organic, adding the growing techniques are free of pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers. The company uses energy-efficient environmental controls and LED lighting, according to a news release.
Ensuring Apothecare provides clean products for both recreational and medical users is among their priorities, according to Drew Hall, sales and marketing manager. They don’t want to spread out 30 different flowers for the customer, rather their aim is to select well-grown and high quality strains.
“We wanted to have top quality products. That is what people are used to smoking in Ann Arbor,” Hall said. “We’re a boutique, small-batch, like a micro-brewery for cannabis.”
Shelf life is also a priority for the company. They try to sell each product within a specific timeframe to ensure the next harvest is ready to be sold.
“We very much try to make sure we run through our product in a 10-week shelf life cycle,” Hall said. “It’s also the freshness factor. We really will be getting a new fresh product in every two weeks.”
The 2,000-square-foot shop can accommodate about seven customers at a time, due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions. It is open from 11 a.m. 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Apothecare is still open for curbside sales.
“We know Ann Arbor has a long history for medical use and caregivers. We’re hoping the community sees us as a good source for clean, high potency, high flavor and well-maintained product in general,” Hall said.
